Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Vintage Grand Prix for providing all city residents with ten days of excitement, brining the top vintage cars out for the public to view, and pursuing their philanthropic duty as a fundraiser for Allegheny Valley School BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Friday, July 18, 2008 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Day, and implores the people of Pittsburgh to join us in celebrating this premier summer event in our city.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is committed to producing a world-class vintage racing event in order to raise funds to help provide residential care, treatment and support for developmentally disabled individuals in the Pittsburgh region; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix holds the dual distinction of America's largest vintage race event and the only one that's raced on city streets; and
 
WHEREAS, the funds raised by this event, which since 1983 have totaled $2.25 million, benefit developmentally disabled individuals at the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's Grand Prix will honor Pittsburgh's beloved Myron Cope, who, as a friend of the Allegheny Valley School and a founder of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, used his highly visible position as voice of the Steelers to secure the City's cooperation with the first installation of this great event; and
 
WHEREAS, This year's Vintage Grand Prix looks to be the best yet as it will mark the 26th year of this wonderful event and includes a race through beautiful Schenley Park this week-end, as well as 14 exciting days of car shows, races, and parties throughout the city from July 6th to the 20th.
