WHEREAS, South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association was born out of adversity and has flourished throughout all these years to achieve numerous triumphs for this community; and,
WHEREAS, founded in the Fall of 1998, the Slopes Association achieved the 501(c)3 nonprofit designation shortly after in 2005, all the while partnering with South Side’s Local Development Company, the South Side Planning Forum, City, County, and State agencies, as well as City of Pittsburgh Police to advocate for residents and to accomplish its goals; and,
WHEREAS, the Slopes Association has done so much for the community it is difficult to know where to begin; and,
WHEREAS, from accomplishing its initial goal of advocating for the City’s procurement of firetrucks that can navigate the beautiful yet challenging roads of the Slopes, to founding the beloved StepTrek-the Slopes Association has been a terrific asset; and,
WHEREAS, because of the work that has been done and all of the partnerships and friendships forged, there have been new footbridges, fixed City steps, safety lighting throughout, thousands of cleanups, new lovely gardens, and so much more; and,
WHEREAS, we have come together tonight to revel in the momentous occasion of the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association celebrating its 20 year anniversary; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize, honor, celebrate and thank the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association, the neighbors, and the volunteers for their unfaltering commitment to this neighborhood; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESERVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 to be “South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
