WHEREAS, the Carnegie Science Center established the Awards for Excellence program in 1997 to recognize and promote outstanding science and technology achievements in Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the Carnegie Science Center Awards for Excellence raise public awareness of the place of science in our daily lives, as well as underscore the interrelationship of schools and universities, research laboratories, business development and job creation in our region; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 Carnegie Science Center Award for Excellence Honorees are:
· FedEx Ground, Chairman's Award; and
· Paul Arch, Nova Chemicals, Advanced Manufacturing; and
· Steven G. Zylstra, Pittsburgh Technology Council Catalyst Connection, Catalyst; and
· Marlin H. Mickle, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, Corporate Innovation; and
· Marguerite Barger, Lisa Faddis, Jim Hopton, Bill Phillips, Jefferson-Morgan School District, Elementary Educator; and
· Peter M. DeComo, Renal Solutions, Inc., Entrepreneur; and
· Margaret H. Dunn, Stream Restoration, Inc., Environmental; and
· James G. Rutkowski, Erie County School District, High School Educator; and
· Richard Pethia, Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute, Information Technology; and
· Stephen F. Badylak D.V.M., M.D., Ph.D., McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Life Sciences; and
· Jennifer Bails, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Media; and

WHEREAS, these great leaders in science, technology, and innovation will be honored at a ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 27, 2005, at the Carnegie Music Hall, featuring keynote speaker NASA astronaut Mike Fincke.
