Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Italian Heritage Society of America for all their great work and congratulates all of this year's award winners.

WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society of America was founded in 1984 in order to celebrate and promote Italian-American history in the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society of America has awarded 156 scholarships over the past nineteen years, including seventy-five to students from the Clelian Heights School for Exceptional children; and
 
WHEREAS, the Society has also honored 198 Italian-Americans for outstanding achievements in their respective fields; and
 
WHEREAS, this year the Society is honoring the following outstanding Italian-Americans:
 
Law            Herman J. Bigi, Esquire
Medicine            Ronald Cercone, M.D.
Sports            Dennis Da Pra
Religion            Reverend John E. Dinello
Government            Honorable Ted R. Harhai
Education            Dr. Albert C. Labriola
Labor            Paul Lemmon
Judiciary            Honorable Mark E. Mascara
Heritage            Vittorio Pugliano
Entrepreneurship            Ralph J. Zecchino
Woman of the Year             Olga Farino Melograne
Junior Honoree             Shawn P. Robinson; and
 
WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society of America will present these awards at their Twentieth Annual Banquet, on October 21, 2006 at the Westin Convention Center Hotel.
