Whereas, on Friday, May 18, 2007, Pittsburgh Public Schools will host the Ninth Annual Take a Father to School Day; and,
Whereas, this event considers "Fathers" to be a positive role model involved in the life of a child; and
Whereas, positive adult males play a significant role in the life of a child and increasing the number that actively participate in the academic and social activities of their children they can impact a child's ability to excel in school and succeed in life; and
Whereas, those adult males who accept the responsibility and the challenge of raising and teaching children possess the unique talents of understanding and leadership which enable them to touch shape and impact lives; and
Whereas, this day could not have been possible with out the dedication of Chairperson and School Board Member Mark Brentley, Sr., the Honorary Chairs Dr James Carmine and Chris Moore, and the Committee Members: Melvin Hubbard El, Mike Nichols aka "Mr. Mike," and Larry Darnell Davis, and Thomas Raglin;
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks the Pittsburgh School Board of Public Education and all volunteers for their work in facilitating "Take Your Father to School Day" and for fostering the importance of a having a positive male role model in a child's life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED The Council of the City of Pittsburgh urges fathers, uncles, cousins and other adult males to attend school on May 18, 2007 and show support for their children's education.
AND, BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH declared Friday, May 18, 2007 to be Take Your Father to School Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
