Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Tuesday, September 19, 2006 is declared "MARY JANE TUCKER DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, September 19, 2006, Mary Jane Tucker will reach the prestigious age of 100 years; and
 
WHEREAS, on September 19, 1906, Mary Jane Tucker was born the sixth of ten children, in Wetumpka, Alabama; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Jane was educated in the Elmore County School System of Wetumpka, Alabama; and
 
WHEREAS, due to economic conditions, Mary Jane was only able to complete the 10th grade of high school, leaving school to supplement here faimily's income by working as a domestic; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1932 she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to seek better employment; once here she worked for several families performing household chores, caregiving and organizing private parties to the satisfaction of her employers; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Jane resided in the Beltzhoover neighborhood of Pittsburgh for fifty years, moving to St. Justin Plaza, a Senior Hi Rise facility in     Mt. Washington, becoming one of its earliest residents; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Jane is very proud of her family, which consists of  one son and daughter-in-law, and an extended family of sons, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grand children, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins living throughout thirteen different states; and
 
WHEREAS, she is an active member in good standing of The New Covenant United Holy Church of America, Inc. and enjoys traveling, knitting, crocheting and embroidery, and for many years she has taught these crafts to young people.
