WHEREAS, Nikkia Ingram has been a security guard at Brashear High School for eight years, but has been much more than that to the youth by helping them apply to college, apply for a job or even just to be a listening ear; and,
WHEREAS, she helped so much that the Vice Principal Joe Michalski suggested a meeting with the Principal, Mrs. Kimberly Safran, who encouraged Nikkia to start a non-profit organization in order to conduct a girl's mentoring group; and,
WHEREAS, in August of 2014, one year after writing notes on an index card at a coffee meeting with Lachelle Binion, founder of Kismet Life, Ms. Ingram founded Cultivating Resilient Youth. The mission of which is to empower, educate and mentor youth for success in life through program development and academic preparation, while creating and providing opportunities for social change to build a strong foundation for successful future; and,
WHEREAS, the first program to come out of Cultivating Resilient Youth was a mentoring group called Fierce Inspiring Young Adults (F.I.Y.A.), which was named by the 9th-12th grade high school girls who attend; and,
WHEREAS, the F.I.Y.A. program focuses on self-improvement, academics, attendance and attitude by working on their self-confidence, self-worth, and respect for self and others which are tools that they can utilize in all aspects of life; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Ingram has since started another company called Cultivate in Life, which is a Relationship, Life and Career coaching consulting business and she has been a guest speaker at several organizations including, but not limited to, Robert Morris University, Gwen Girls, and the F.A.M.E. Academy. In addition, she organized local male community leaders and coordinated a Community Restorative Justice Circle to help curb the violence in our neighborhoods; and,
