Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Karen Barry's 40 years of service in education to the students of Immaculate Conception School and the surrounding community by thanking her for her service and wishing her happiness in her retirement years; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 25, 2012 Karen Barry Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the historic Immaculate Conception Parish has, with the highest standard of excellence, educated catholic youth residing in Bloomfield and the surrounding neighborhoods since 1910; and
 
WHEREAS, after graduating from Immaculate Conception School, many of these students have proceeded to honor their Alma mater through numerous accomplishments that would have been otherwise impossible without the steady guidance and training of outstanding and dedicated educators; and
 
WHEREAS, one of the most devoted and successful of these educators, Mrs. Karen Barry, the oldest of 10 children and herself a graduate of Immaculate Conception School, having positively impacted the lives of countless students over the course of her 40-year career, will be retiring from her role teaching Kindergarten at Immaculate Conception School; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Barry will, having dedicated her life to the betterment of her students, the Bloomfield community, and the City of Pittsburgh as a whole, be able to spend even more time with her husband, Ed Barry, a retired City of Pittsburgh Fireman and her two daughters, Megan and Coleen, at her much-loved summer home; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Barry has been recognized by the Immaculate Conception School community for her dedication to excellence in education, her unparalleled positivity in both demeanor and action, as well as her tireless efforts to improve the lives of both her students and their families; and
