Title: WHEREAS, Livingstone Morris Johnson was born December 27, 1927 and became an African American judicial trailblazer who was known as "the Conscience of the Court" in recognition of his commitment to equality; and WHEREAS, Judge Johnson completed his education through high school without a single Black classmate and moved on to attend Howard University, where he took time off from his education in order to serve his country by flying 58 combat missions over Korea; and WHEREAS, upon returning to the United States, Livingstone Morris Johnson earned a degree from the University of Michigan's School of Law in 1957; and WHEREAS, Judge Johnson served as an Assistant County Solicitor until October of 1962, at which time he then moved on to the Juvenile Section of the Family Division as a Common Pleas Judge where he conducted 21,500 hearings; and WHEREAS, on December 28, 1997, Judge Livingstone Morris Johnson was designated as a Senior Judge by the Chief Justice of the Commonwealth ...

WHEREAS, Judge Johnson has been the recipient of numerous awards over the breadth of his career including the Outstanding Juvenile Court Judge Award from the Allegheny County League of Women Voters; the Juvenile Law Award from the ACBA Juvenile Law Committee; the Susan B. Anthony Award from the Women's Bar Association; and the Drum Major for Justice Award from the Homer S. Brown Law Association; and
 
WHEREAS, Judge Johnson enjoys membership in St. Mark A.M.E. Church located in Wilkinsburg, the NAACP, Omega Psi Phi, the American Inns of Court, the Homer S. Brown Law Association, the American Judicature Society, the Pennsylvania State Conference on State Trial Judges, and the American Bar Foundation.
 
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to recognize and honor Judge Livingstone Morris Johnson for his successful career in public service and for his numerous personal and professional achievements.
