Resolution authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works to enter into a grant agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service to protect urban ash trees from Emerald Ash Borer insects. In an amount of $100,000.00.

Body
Whereas, The City of Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission seeks to provide protection to ash trees by providing injections to approximately 200 specimen trees and to purchase equipment.

Whereas, The City of Pittsburgh has pursued a grant with the USDA, Forest Service to manage the infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer on selected ash trees throughout City parks.

Whereas, The USDA Forest Service has offered a grant to manage trees infected by the Emerald Ash Borer on behalf of the City and Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission (the "Commission");

Whereas, the City and the Commission have agreed to cooperate with the USDA, Forest Service (collectively "the Project Partners") by providing funding up to $100,000 to be reimbursed by for the protection of ash trees. Including but not limited to the hiring of a contractor, managing contract and the purchase of equipment. To monitor progress as in-kind match and to provide reports to USDA, Forest Service until grant expires.

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

Section 1. The Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works, on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, are hereby authorized to enter into a grant agreement with the USDA, Forest Service for the purpose of protecting ash trees from the Emerald Ash Borer. The grant in the amount of $100,000.00 is a reimbursable payment. The funds will be used for injection of ash trees throughout the City of Pittsburgh. The City will engage a contractor to inject 200+ trees and will also purchase equipment for injections in the future. The City of Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission will fund the project. The form...
