Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Paul Hinerman for putting his life at risk to help a neighbor in need; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 18, 2014 to be “Paul Hinerman Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, citizens of the City of Pittsburgh who put others' safety and well-being ahead of their own, contribute to our sense of community and help make our City a more livable place for all; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Hinerman was born and raised in the Brighton Heights neighborhood on Pittsburgh's Northside and attended Oliver High School.  Today he lives in the Brightwood area with his fiancé Angie, and their three sons; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul works in the construction field doing roofing, remodeling, and painting, and has been described as a "Jack of all Trades" by family and friends; and
 
WHEREAS, on February 23, 2014, Paul came home to find a fire burning in his neighbor's house, and smoke rising up from the flames.  While Angie called 911, Paul ran up to the house and shouted to see if anyone was trapped inside.  When he got no response, Paul kicked in the door, rushed through the kitchen which was engulfed in flames and found a man asleep on the couch.  Paul proceeded to pick him up and rush him to safety in the nick of time; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Hinerman's heroic and selfless actions that may have saved a man's life shall not be forgotten; and
