Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledge all teachers for their hard work and dedication put forth to inspire and direct the youth of the nation; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Tuesday, May 4, 2004 as "Teacher Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the National Education Association recognizes Tuesday, May 4th, 2004 as National Teacher Day, a time for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.
 
WHEREAS, teachers fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors; and
 
WHEREAS, teachers work every day to open children's minds to new ideas, knowledge and dreams, helping lead them down the road to success; and
 
WHEREAS, teachers keep American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good citizenship; and
 
WHEREAS, teachers strive to influence students while in the classroom, and their influence continues long after school days are only memories; and
 
WHEREAS, teachers are a vital element in the shaping and molding of America's youth into well rounded individuals, providing tools for knowledge and discipline;
 
WHEREAS, Gloria Brown of Northview Elementary, Helen Hill of Spring Hill Elementary, Al Dietrich of Incarnation Academy, and Gary Sherman of Oliver High School are fine examples of teachers who make a difference and just a small representation all of the great educators in the City of Pittsburgh;
