WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Marbles Program offers young people the opportunity to participate in games at County parks and runs the Allegheny County Championship, which can lead to a chance to enter the National Marbles Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh was represented at the 2010 National Marbles Tournament by:
· Penelope Bauer, 13 years old, won the girls division in her fourth time entering the Tournament
· Nick Cavacini, 12 years old, finished in 10th place in his first time entering the Tournament
· Ben Eddings, 11 years old, finished in 9th place in his second time entering the Tournament
· Brandon Matchett, 11 years old, placed 4th and was a national semifinalist in his second year at the Tournament
· Bailey Narr, 10 years old, was the national runner up in her second year at the Tournament
· Jordan Narr, 12 years old, placed 4th and made the national semifinals in his first year at the Tournament; and
WHEREAS, the players are coached by Dan S. LaGamba, Dan C. LaGamba and Ed Ricci; and
WHEREAS, the players started practicing in February at a local gym where a parent donated his time to build a ring for the kids; and
WHEREAS, early in the season, the players practice twice a week for three hours and in the two weeks prior to the local tournament and through the nationals, they practice every day for three hours.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the six players who represented Pittsburgh at the National Marbles Tournament for their dedication and congratulates them on their success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares July 13, 2010, "Marble Champions Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
