WHEREAS, our dedicated law enforcement officers who react quickly and professionally in dangerous situations, putting the safety of others ahead of their own, make the City of Pittsburgh a better place to live for all; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Kevin Faulds, a 14-year veteran of the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, was born and raised in the City of Pittsburgh, and graduated from Perry High School on the Northside; and
WHEREAS, during his years of service, Sergeant Faulds has been recognized numerous times for his exemplary work in investigations, where his actions went above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, April 5, 2013, Sergeant Faulds was driving along Fifth Avenue in downtown when he heard gunshots and observed several people in the midst of a physical brawl, one of whom had been shot, and;
WHEREAS, Sergeant Faulds immediately called for backup before exiting his vehicle, drawing his service weapon, and ordering the individuals to drop to the ground; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Faulds single-handedly secured all three individuals and recovered two pistols to prevent any further injuries before backup could arrive; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Sergeant Faulds for placing his life in jeopardy to protect innocent bystanders; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 30, 2013 to be "Sergeant Kevin Faulds Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
