WHEREAS, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland is the nation's only military museum dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches and capacities of military service; and
WHEREAS, the vision of Soldiers & Sailors is to promote the understanding and appreciation of the accomplishments and sacrifice of the service men and women and their community; and
WHEREAS, in pursuit of that vision, Soldiers & Sailors will host its annual Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 28, an event aimed at remembering the men and women who proudly serve or have served in our country's armed forces; and
WHEREAS, this year's Celebration will include a special ceremony to install a new time capsule in recognition of Soldiers & Sailors' one hundred years of accomplishments and service to the community, and to rededicate the cornerstone it removed in 2010 while celebrating its 100th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the Celebration, which is free and open to the public, also includes free admission to the Museum, entertainment, and children's activities, and a special remembrance ceremony honoring fallen heroes from the War on Terrorism.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor our nation's service members and the work year-round of the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum Trust on behalf of our armed forces; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 28, 2012 to be "Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
