Title: WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network (PIIN) will hold its fourth annual Fundraising Banquet on April 26th, 2007, entitled, "From Faith and Hope to Love and Action"; and WHEREAS, civil rights activist and comedian, Mr. Dick Gregory, is the keynote speaker for the evening; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gregory is known for exploring the racial inequities of the civil rights era with compassion and humor; and WHEREAS, PIIN is an interracial, urban-suburban coalition of religious congregations and other organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania that brings people of all faiths and income levels together to act on local and regional issues of justice and equity through community building, direct action, and negotiation with decision-makers; and WHEREAS, PIIN currently convenes five task forces, in the areas of Housing, Public Transit, Single-Payer Health Care, Work Force Development, and Civil Rights for Immigrants, to work on issues affecting its member congregations; and ...

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network (PIIN) will hold its fourth annual Fundraising Banquet on April 26th, 2007, entitled, "From Faith and Hope to Love and Action"; and
 
WHEREAS, civil rights activist and comedian, Mr. Dick Gregory, is the keynote speaker for the evening; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Gregory is known for exploring the racial inequities of the civil rights era with compassion and humor; and

WHEREAS, this past fall, PIIN held a public meeting on the issues of public transit, healthcare and immigration reform that was attended by over 900 people.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks PIIN for its efforts to bridge religious communities; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares April 26, 2007, "Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
