WHEREAS, Richard Rattner is a lifelong resident of the City of Pittsburgh ;and,
Body
WHEREAS, Mr. Rattner has established and operated the William Penn Tavern since he founded it in 2001; and,
WHEREAS, the Tavern has served as a Shadyside neighborhood pillar throughout its history; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rattner has strived to make a neighborhood feel, from the menu and drink offerings to the 100% local staffing, essential to the Tavern’s business; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rattner assumed a leadership role among his fellow restauranteurs when COVID-19 struck, helping to coordinate a system where establishments could share resources and employees in order to survive the disruption to the industry; and,
WHEREAS, this commitment to his and his peers’ employees enabled Mr. Rattner to avoid laying off a single Tavern staff member during the pandemic (actually increasing the amount of people on payroll); and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rattner has served as the President of the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce off-and-on for the past three decades; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rattner is known to many as the “unofficial mayor of Shadyside” due to his longstanding contributions to the community; and,
WHEREAS, after 20 years of successful and impactful business in Shadyside, the Tavern has relocated to its new home on Butler Street in Lawrenceville; and,
WHEREAS, though the East End will certainly miss the Tavern’s presence in Shadyside, all wish Mr. Rattner and his staff the best of fortunes as the location changes, and;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate Mr. Rattner’s outstanding contributions to Shadyside as well as his future impact on Lawrenceville and all Pittsburghers who patronize the William Penn Tavern.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 19, 2022, to be “Richard Rattner Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
