Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to thank Reverend Monroe for his tireless dedication to the community and honor him by declaring Friday, November 14, 2008, “Reverend Johnnie Monroe Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS Reverend Johnnie Monroe has served Grace Memorial Church as pastor for 16 years.  Along with his service as pastor, his list of accomplishments includes many honorable contributions to the community.  One of these accomplishments is founding the Schenley Heights Community Development Program which today includes the After-School Tutorial and Enrichment Program and the Nadia Track Team; and
 
WHEREAS Reverend Monroe is also a founding member and past president of the Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network, a convener of the African American Pastors of the Pittsburgh Presbytery, and a founding father of the Churches and Clergy United of the Hill District; and
 
WHEREAS Reverend Monroe also dedicates his time as an instructor and board member of the Metro Urban Institute of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, the board of directors and marketing committee for Dwelling House Savings and Loan Associations, and the A+ School Board; and
 
WHEREAS although Reverend Monroe is retiring in January of 2009, his work and his many accomplishments will be remembered for years to come.
