Title
WHEREAS, Ebenezer Baptist Church was founded in 1875 and is one of the oldest organized African American churches in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Ebenezer Baptist Church maintains the philosophy of freedom of thought, open-mindedness, and a respect for the word of God, while also hosting a diverse congregation with membership from across the metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the Church's original building and monument was destroyed in a fire that was deemed by the Post-Gazette to be the worst fire in Pittsburgh's history; and
WHEREAS, the Ebenezer Baptist Church emerged as a stronger community consequent to these devastating circumstances, thereby using its difficult experiences as an opportunity to grow in its mission of service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Winsett, the Executive Committee, the Church's Joint Board, and the dedicated and vibrant congregation enjoyed a day of remembrance and much joyful celebration on their first annual Jubilee Day.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to congratulate Ebenezer Baptist Church on its one year Jubilee, while also wishing it the best of luck in the months and years to come.
