Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff for his extraordinary leadership and his sixteen years of teaching as the Pittsburgh Jewish Community Scholar, thanks him for his service to the City of Pittsburgh and wishes him and his family Yasher Koach and Mazel Tov as they embark on a new life in the Land of Israel; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, August 3, 2009, to be “Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Australian native Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff, has served the Pittsburgh Jewish community for sixteen years as a scholar, author and pulpit Rabbi at Temple B'nai Israel in White Oak, PA; and as the Agency for Jewish Learning's Community Scholar ; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff, in the role of the Agency for Jewish Learning's Community Scholar, has fostered access to the highest quality learning experiences for the largest number of people possible by providing hundreds, perhaps thousands, of adult Jewish learners the opportunity to explore and better understand all aspects of Judaism by sharing his remarkable gift of teaching; and,
WHEREAS, Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff is a published author on abortion, poverty, marriage, tzedakah, current events and other numerous issues and has taught in venues around the world as a Scholar-In-Residence on a variety of topics; and,
WHEREAS, Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff is a respected authority on ethics in Jewish and secular life and served as a distinguished member of the City of Pittsburgh Ethics Commission from 2006-2008 ; and,
WHEREAS, Rabbi Dr. Danny Schiff, his wife, Anne and their children, David and Adina, will leave Pittsburgh in August 2009 to make Aliyah to Israel, leaving behind a sixteen year legacy of scholarship, example, spiritual understanding, ethical leadership and an extraordinary standard for teaching; and,
