WHEREAS, Big Daddy Kane (BDK), hailing from Brooklyn, New York, is widely considered one of the greatest emcees in the history of Hip-Hop music. His albums “Long Live the Kane” and “It’s A Big Daddy Thing” are timeless classics that have inspired generations of Hip-Hop artists and enthusiasts around the world; and,

WHEREAS, Big Daddy Kane was a member of the legendary Juice Crew, working with the likes of Marley Marl, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante, Kool G. Rap, and Craig G, just to name a few during the Golden Age of Hip-Hop. BDK appeared on the groundbreaking record "The Symphony" in 1988. The song became the blueprint for the "Posse Cut" and was performed live for the first time in many years at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in May 2015. and,
WHEREAS, Big Daddy Kane has worked with numerous legendary artists throughout his career including Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Quincy Jones, Barry White, Big L, Teddy Riley, Patti Labelle, Busta Rhymes, 2Pac and Jay-Z to name a few. and,
WHEREAS, Big Daddy Kane has performed in Pittsburgh many times over the last thirty-five years, bringing his once-in-a-generation talent and world-class stage show to our city. We thank him for sharing his gifts with us and for his contributions to Hip-Hop culture across the globe. and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate Big Daddy Kane on an amazing career. and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Sunday, June 9th, 2024, to be “Big Daddy Kane Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
