Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes Silk Screen for producing the first ever Asian American Film Festival in Pittsburgh, and looks forward to monitoring the growth of this very worthy addition to the Pittsburgh cultural scene.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh is a city with a proud tradition of supporting cultural diversity; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screen, newly rooted in the Pittsburgh cultural scene, is a celebration of diversity and multi-cultural appreciation of the Asian and Asian American experience through cultural events, particularly film; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival is a multiple day event that will showcase films and filmmakers from India, Japan, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Iran and more; and
 
WHEREAS, the First Annual Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival will take place on May 12-20, 2006 in multiple venues, including The Regent Square Theater, Harris Theater, and the Melwood Screening Room, and will show more than 20 feature films; and
 
WHEREAS, each film is feature length and tells a universally appealing story of human emotion that transcends political and cultural boundaries; and
 
WHEREAS, several of the films are scheduled for special presentations that include question and answer sessions with the filmmakers; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screen's Red Carpet Gala will be held at 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 13 at the Nine over 9th Gallery and Rooftop Patio.
