WHEREAS, Friday, January 28, 2011 is Earned Income Tax Credit Day as declared by the Internal Revenue Service; and
WHEREAS, the EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals, who earned less than $18,740.00, and working families with children, who earned less than $48,362.00; and
WHEREAS, more people will qualify for an EITC, which can bring them between $2.00 and $5,600.00, for the first time this year because of economic changes in their income; and
WHEREAS, the United Way of Allegheny County's 'Money in Your Pocket Coalition' helps clients who often overlook this valuable tax credit and, along with, Just Harvest and other VITA sites, offers free tax assistance services to those who qualify.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, proclaim Friday, January 28, 2011 to be Earned Income Tax Awareness Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
