WHEREAS, Sister Olga Marie Faryna OSBM answered the call to serve God and His Children fifty years ago; and
WHEREAS, Sister Faryna earned her Bachelors Degree from Villanova University and her Masters from LaSalle University; and
WHEREAS, Sister Faryna's life of service began with teaching schoolchildren in Chicago, Illinois, Auburn, N.Y. and Northhampton, PA, as well as caring for children in St. Basil's Orphanage prior to her assignment in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Sister Faryna fully utilized her education, talent, expertise and rich experience to benefit the people of the Greater Pittsburgh area; and
WHEREAS, Sister Faryna visits the homebound of several Ukrainian Catholic churches in Pittsburgh, bringing them the Holy Eucharist as well as connecting them to social services in the area; and
WHEREAS, Sister Faryna has taught catechism classes for both children and adults throughout the Eparchy of Saint Josephat, which includes not only Southwestern Pennsylvania but also parts of Ohio and West Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Sister Faryna has dedicated the last twenty-five years to the people of Pittsburgh, fully half of her years as a nun, to serving in Pastoral Ministry and Social Services; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Sister Olga Marie Faryna for her dedication to her work, and the entire City of Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 12, 2013 to be "Sister Olga Marie Faryna Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
