Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, recognizes and commends the Department of Public Safety, the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department, the Pennsylvania State Police and all who worked to ensure the safety of the residents of our City.

Whereas, on Sunday, February 6, 2006, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks to win Super Bowl XL; and   
 
Whereas, thousands upon thousands of fans took to the streets of Pittsburgh in festive celebration and an estimated 250,000 fans came Downtown to participate in the Super Bowl Parade and Rally on Tuesday, February 7; and
 
Whereas, the Department of Public Safety, with help from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department and the Pennsylvania State Police successfully maintained law and order throughout the City both after the Super Bowl and during the parade and rally; and
 
Whereas, they were truly successful in balancing the fans' need to celebrate with the public's need for safety; and
 
Whereas, there were minimum arrests made on Super Bowl Sunday and none at the Parade and Rally on Tuesday, February 7, 2006; and
