Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Breachmenders Ministries on its 25th Anniversary and commends it for providing 25 years of work, help, dedication and community service to the residents of West Oakland. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT April 2, 2005 be hereby declared "Breachmenders Ministries Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Breachmenders Ministries was founded on May 1, 1980 as an independent outgrowth of the Friendship Community Presbyterian Church in West Oakland; and
 
WHEREAS, Breachmenders Ministries is a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to provide decent, affordable housing, employment training, programming for youth and families, and community development in partnership with low-to-moderate income people of the West Oakland/Hill District neighborhoods; and
 
WHEREAS, much of West Oakland's vacant and dilapidated houses are acquired and completely renovated and then sold to low-to-moderate income first-time homebuyers; and
 
WHEREAS, throughout the City of Pittsburgh, the Labor Free Home Repair Program discounts 50%-75% off the cost of needed home repairs for low-income homeowners annually; and
 
WHEREAS, Breachmenders School-to-Career Program (S2C Program) in cooperation with UPMC, University of Pittsburgh, and Carlow University, provides support programs for approximately 100 low-income students aged 5-21.  The S2C Students are placed in mentored worksites, where they receive daily homework assistance at the S2C Teen Center.  Here they can explore career options and receive computer literacy training and tutoring provided by volunteer college students; and
 
WHEREAS, this year, Breachmenders Ministries is celebrating its 25th Anniversary of providing 25 years of life changing community service.
