Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for honoring Sally Wiggin, with the David L. Lawrence Award for Public Service Leadership & Excellence, for her outstanding professional achievement and personal successes and does hereby declare Wednesday, December 7, 2011, to be “Sally Wiggin Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, initially, the fraternity that was Amen Corner only consisted of prominent and privileged men who included doctors, lawyers, judges, politicians and business leaders but in the 1980's, the organization admitted women and minorities and in 2001, inaugurated its first female President; and
WHEREAS, Sally Wiggin, esteemed anchor of Channel 4 Action News, has an extensive resume and has received extensive awards for her work including Best Female Newscaster by the readers of Pittsburgh Magazine in 2008, as well as the 2010 and 2011 Favorite News Personality; and
WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the great leadership Sally Wiggin exemplifies towards improving the quality of life through her involvement in the community and is thankful that her job allows her to be active and engaged with so many wonderful local organizations; and
WHEREAS, Sally Wiggin, an active sportswoman, is a horseback riding, skiing and golf enthusiast, when time permits, she considers speaking to schoolchildren, serving the non-profit community, and working with the Zoo and the region's animal shelters as the extraordinary rewards from her job; and
WHEREAS, on December 7, 2011, the Amen Corner will be hosting its 141st Holiday Party at the Mansions on Fifth, in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh;
