Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the impactful work of PERSAD Center for LGBTQ individuals and those affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as the outstanding efforts made by the organizing committee for the Art for Change event; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 24, 2018 to be "PERSAD Art for Change Recognition Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, having been a part of the Pittsburgh community since 1972, PERSAD Center is recognized as the nation's second oldest licensed counseling center for LGBTQ and HIV positive individuals; and

 

WHEREAS, April 30, 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of PERSAD Center's annual art auction fundraiser, "Art for Change," and has raised over $4.5 million dollars in support for services and programs for Pittsburgh LGBTQ and those affected by HIV/AIDS; and

 

WHEREAS, this fundraiser is an immense undertaking which requires months of preparation, dedication, and coordination to arrange for both artists and over 150 community volunteers, food caterers, use of a public gallery, security, and much more; and

 

WHEREAS, the Art for Change auctions is only able to occur through the diligent and untiring work of an organizing committee made up of 24 devoted individuals, including Ben Hayes, Carolyn Fletcher, Lori Comber, Michael Beigay, Greg Mutinelli, Fred Blauth, Craig Falatovich, John Davis, PJ Musick, Gary Janchenko, Scott Roller, Michelle Holsopple, Michele Broda, Laura Horowitz, Eli Horowitz, Michael Shaw, Kevin Bigley, Alexander Petro, Nicholas Dube, Billy Jo Pace, Katlyn Doolin, Drue Miller, Greg Weidner, Matthew Girty, and Rob Anderson; and

 

WHEREAS, PERSAD Center would like to officially thank these individuals for their unwavering labor to ensure that the 30th Art for Change fundraiser will be a great success; and
