Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize , commend and congratulate Rabbi Shimon Silver and Rebbitzen Chani Silver for their dedication, commitment and generosity to the community, for their sharing of knowledge and intellect and for their devotion without any expectation of reward ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, March 14, 2016 to be "RABBI SHIMON AND REBBITZEN CHANI SILVER DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Young Israel of Greater Pittsburgh is an Orthodox Shul, which holds services in an intimate and restored home, located in the heart of Squirrel Hill where the neighborhood boasts a strong Jewish community. Made up of families with diverse backgrounds and professions, Young Israel emphasizes meeting guests and inviting them to their homes for lunch after services; and,

WHEREAS, Rabbi Shimon Silver has been the Rav of Young Israel of Greater Pittsburgh for over 11 years. An internationally recognized authority in Jewish religious law, Rabbi Silver has been a scholar in the Kollel Learning Center, teacher of rabbinic studies at the Mesivta of Allegheny County, Halachic advisor for Poale Zedeck and protector of the eruv every week. Rabbi Silver also serves on the Halachic Advisory Board of the National Council of Young Israel, which also features Rabbi Silver's ongoing weekly discussion of practical questions in Jewish Law. Rabbi Silver is exceedingly generous in sharing his broad and deep knowledge of Torah and Talmud with people of all ages and all levels; and,

WHEREAS, Rebbitzen Chani Silver has taught at Hillel, and conducts weekly classes for women, developing online training opportunities for young girls and women to extend their knowledge of Torah and Mitzvot. She and Rabbi Silver are certified marriage enrichment facilitators and certified Halachic marriage counselors. In addition, she has brought Chai Lifeline, a support organization for families in which a member is facing a major illness, to the community; and,

WHEREAS, Young Israel of Greater Pittsburgh will be honoring Rabbi and Mrs. Shimon Silver for their contributions to the community at an event on March 14, 2016 at the University of Pittsburgh featuring a musical presentation called Entartete, the Forbidden Music of the Holocaust.
