WHEREAS, the Garfield Gators mission is to provide structured programming and to develop positive relationship with youth living in Garfield and its surrounding neighborhoods through athletics, mentoring, and advocacy; and,

WHEREAS, the Garfield Youth Sports program was founded in 1993 by, Frank Chatman, Bob Jones, Jr., Garth Taylor, Tone Walls, Chris Woodard, and with technical support from the Bloomfield Garfield Corporation; and,
WHEREAS, for the past 30 years, the program has had a tradition of presenting a successful and winning youth sports program for over 5,000 children, ranging from ages of five to fourteen; and,
WHEREAS, the Garfield Gators held their 30th anniversary gala on Saturday July 13th, 2024 at Rodef Shalom Temple; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate the Garfield Gators on their 30th anniversary; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 to be “Garfield Gators Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
