Body
Whereas, The Frick Art Museum presents Off the Pedestal: New Women in the Art of Homer, Chase and Sargent and Minerva Chapman: Miniature Portraits from November 4, 2006 through January 14, 2007.

Whereas, this exhibition has been made possible through major funding by the Henry Luce Foundation and JP Morgan Chase Foundation and generous support from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Victoria Foundation and the Newark Museum Volunteer Organization.  The Pittsburgh presentation is made possible through the generosity of the Eden Hall Foundation and additional support by Allegheny Foundation and PNC Wealth Management.

Whereas, the Off the Pedestal exhibit features over 100 compelling works by such American masters as Winslow Homer, William Merritt Chase, John Singer Sargent and Charles Dana Gibson.  This exhibition is the first to examine the radical images of the 19th century New Woman, who appeared in art, literature and popular culture immediately after the Civil War.  The New Woman is the precursor of today's modern woman.

Whereas, Minerva Chapman was an accomplished painter of miniature portraits on canvas and ivory, some no larger than 4 x 5 inches whose works comprising the exhibition are from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Morse G. Dial, Jr.
