Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, for the occasion of Chief Bocian's retirement on March 2, 2016, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby extend to him our most sincere thanks and appreciation for his tireless service to the People of Pittsburgh and to his fellow Paramedics; and, BE IT EVEN FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March of 2016 to be "Mark A. Bocian Month" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in the fall of 1975, Mark A. Bocian was hired as a Paramedic and took the oath to "conserve life, alleviate suffering, promote health, and do no harm..." becoming one of the founding members of the City of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services; and,

WHEREAS, Mark, who rose through the ranks, starting with his first promotion to Paramedic Supervisor in 1980, has kept that oath close to his heart and in turn, driven by his strong faith in God, made Pittsburgh EMS one of the finest EMS systems in the country; and,

WHEREAS, paramedics in Pittsburgh and beyond benefitted greatly from Mark's leadership as a board member of the Allegheny County EMS Council, the Allegheny County EMS Chiefs Association, the Emergency Medical Services Institute, and the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Service Council; and,

WHEREAS, during his time as Deputy Chief and later Chief, Mark presided over innovative clinical programs that improved survival rates for cardiac arrest and critically ill patients in the field, and he engaged in community programs to provide CPR training and link social service resources to at-risk populations; and,

WHEREAS, Mark worked alongside his fellow medics for decades, saving the lives of Pittsburghers and making sure the City would be served by some of the best and brightest Paramedics in the country. We are truly grateful for his 40 years of dedicated service; and,

WHEREAS, most of all Mark is a loving husband to his wife Christine, father to his three sons Keith, Matt, and Brian, and grandfather to six grandchildren; and,
