Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the many accomplishments of Herb Green - for his devotion to his family; for his excellence in his profession; for his many selfless acts on behalf of his family, colleagues country and the city he loved, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, in recognition of a life well lived, does hereby declare Friday, June 20, 2008, the first day of summer, to be Herb Green Day In The City Of Pittsburgh

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has always been proud of its citizens whose achievements and accomplishments have enriched the city and the quality of life therein; and,
WHEREAS, after defending his country during World War II, Herbert S. Green arrived in Pittsburgh in 1950. Herb and his bride, Edythe, adopted the city as their home town and settled in to raise a family and pursue their life's work; and,
WHEREAS, Herb and Edythe raised four wonderful children; Wendy, Keith, Larry and Rick in the neighborhood of Squirrel Hill and immersed themselves in the pleasures of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Herb Green came to be employed with Pittsburgh's premier real estate development corporation, the Buncher Company, and over the course of half a century became it's Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer; and,
WHEREAS, as the ultimate goodwill ambassador at-large of the Buncher Company and the steward of its relationships with all facets of the Greater Pittsburgh community, Herb Green made a significant and indelible imprint on the development of the City of Pittsburgh as well as supporting charitable and civic endeavors; and,
WHEREAS, members of town councils, mayors, county commissioners, and captains of industry alike learned to count on Herb Green for his wise counsel, sincere friendship, and honest guidance - all knew him to be a man of integrity, dedicated to the common good and a fair deal; and,
WHEREAS, June 20th 2007, Herb Green passed away peacefully at home in Oakland with his beloved wife at his side, his earthly work complete, his legacy secured, leaving behind countless people thankful and honored to have known him.
