WHEREAS, 412Thrive is a nonprofit group which was formed in 2020 during the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic, that made dealing with a difficult diagnosis of breast cancer even more frightening and isolating; and,

WHEREAS, diagnosed at 23, Samantha Moatz, founder and executive director of 412Thrive, struggled to find a support group to which she could connect. As a survivor, Samantha knows first-hand the physical, emotional and financial price that comes after you are cancer free. Thus, the idea of a nonprofit that focused on survivorship and beyond was born; and,
WHEREAS, the group strives to create a support system for those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or genetic mutations that lead to cancer in an environment that makes everyone feel secure and included as a cancer survivor; and,
WHEREAS, by offering online and in-person support, monthly gatherings, educational workshops, wellness retreats, care packages, cleaning services and meals, 412Thrive is devoted to helping individuals in the Southwestern Pennsylvania area do more than survive, they help them thrive; hence they are known as Thrivers; and,
WHEREAS, on Friday, April 12, 412Thrive is hosting their second annual Casino Night at Acrisure Stadium. With a volunteer board and staff, all donations from the evening goes directly to fund services for Thrivers; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize 412Thrive and commend them for their service to breast cancer patients and survivors; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, April 12, 2024 to be “412Thrive Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
