Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend The Preservation and Cynthia and Oscar Jones for benefits to the youth of our community. Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does herby proclaim Wednesday, August 20, 2008 as "Youth Recognition Celebration Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, two years ago, The Preservation launched the annual Youth Recognition Celebration.  The mission of The Preservation is the commitment to preserve the legacy and heritage of African American history to youth and their families. On Wednesday, August 20, 2008, The Preservation will celebrate youth 8-12 years of age for good behavior. This day also promotes reading fluency, mentoring and the arts, which are widely recognized as fundamental tools to possess in this ever-changing global society, and
Whereas, during the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech, "I Have A Dream", The Preservation youth awards will go to Nasir Butler, Lauren Prince, Kimberly Hordezes, Christian Wells, Jonathan Cooper and Toya Cooper, and
 
Whereas, The Ida Freeman Brown Community Support Award will be presented to the Homewood Family Support Center, Lawanda Long, Director.  The Oscar W. Jones Parent Volunteer Award will be presented to Louvenia Hordezes for outstanding work with youth and her community.
 
Whereas, The Preservation core values are excellence, youth and family involvement, cultural awareness, pride, dignity, accountability, and a spiritual foundation.
