WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 18, 2003, the West Mifflin Lions Club is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a dinner at the Churchill Country Club; and

WHEREAS, the Lions Club International is the world's largest service organization representing 1.5 million members in over 180 countries and geographic locations; and

WHEREAS, the Lions Club consists of individuals who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local community, region and the world community; and

WHEREAS, the West Mifflin Lions Club, chartered October 26, 1953, donates over $20,000 yearly to various local, state, regional, national organizations and to individuals in need; and

WHEREAS, the West Mifflin Lions Club through various fund raising efforts has made donations to West Mifflin and Whitaker Fire Companies, Carnegie Library, Dogs for the Deaf, Salvation Army, Early Learning, Pittsburgh Vision Services, Lions Beacon Lodge, Walnut Grove Food Bank, Make-A-Wish, Radio Information Services, Western PA Hearing Foundation, the Post-Gazette Children's Hospital Fund and the Titan Grid Boosters just to name a few; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh CONGRATULATES and THANKS the Lions Club for their unselfish dedication to serving those in need.
