Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend The Pittsburgh Public Theater for its contribution to our city, our region, and to the American Theater.

Whereas, The Pittsburgh Public Theater is proud to be celebrating it's 30th Birthday Season milestone; and
 
Whereas, The Pittsburgh Public Theater was founded in 1974 by Joan Apt, Margaret Riek, and Ben Shaktman.  The Public Theater made it's original home in the Hazlett Theater on Pittsburgh's North Side, housed in the Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall; and
 
Whereas, The mission of The Pittsburgh Public Theater is to provide artistically diverse theatrical experiences of the highest quality and to   serve, challenge, stimulate, and entertain while operating in a fiscally responsible manner; and
 
Whereas, The Pittsburgh Public Theater shares it's resources with the community through education and outreach initiatives intended for a wide range of people with the goal of expanding and diversifying the audience while enriching the community; and
 
Whereas, today, The Pittsburgh Public Theater stands as one of the leading regional theaters in the country, welcoming more than 115,000 Theater goers each year and is led by Artist & Executive Director, Ted Pappas. Since joining The Pittsburgh Public Theater in 2001, Mr. Pappas has helped it to reach new levels of achievement and success.
