WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chess Club's roots go back to the early 1900s; and,
WHEREAS, it continues to serve the needs of chess players in Allegheny County; and,
WHEREAS, since 2016, Mr. Boyd Reed has served as President of the Club; and,
WHEREAS, during his time as President, Mr. Reed has led and directed tournaments, mentored the next generation of board members, oversaw the strategic direction of the club, and safely transitioned the club into a new part of the Wightman building; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Reed has spent much of his life serving the national chess community; and,
WHEREAS, currently, he serves as the Director of Events for United States Chess Federation; and,
WHEREAS, he is a National Master, National Tournament Director, International Arbiter, and has organized many events, at all levels; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Reed has been involved with US Chess as a scholastic player, collegiate player, scholastic coach, adult player, organizer, director, scholastic parent, local volunteer, state volunteer, US Chess Delegate, US Chess committee chairman and, since May 2016, US Chess staff member; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Reed is an accomplished chess player in his own right, rated 2117.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the important contribution of Mr. Boyd Reed to the Pittsburgh community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 17, 2019 to be “Boyd Reed Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
