Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends the members of the Pittsburgh Schaeffer Intermediate Student Council for taking such active leadership roles and making an immediate impact in their school and wishes them continued success in reaching all of their goals.

WHEREAS, the Student Council of Pittsburgh Schaeffer Intermediate is a newly found organization for the 2007-2008 school year; and

WHEREAS, the Student Council was initiated by the students, as they saw a need for additional student programs and had other concerns in the school; and

WHEREAS, the students were voted into these positions by the entire student body after being nominated and campaigning for a week's time; and

WHEREAS, after all of the votes were tallied, the results of the first ever Student Council Election showed Sandra Walls as President; Jahote Dorsey, Vice-President; Jaquan Greene, Treasurer; Davon Grant, Secretary and Dontrell Summers, Honorary Member of Student Council; and

WHEREAS, although they had a late start, only officially beginning in January of this year, they have been very busy organizing activities for the school which included an ice cream social/ fundraiser for the entire school in February, a Valentine's Day Dance that raised nearly $300.00 and a basketball tournament/fundraiser that included students from all grade levels; and

WHEREAS, all the fundraising proceeds will go toward an end of the year trip to Washington, D.C. for the Student Council members; and

WHEREAS, the Student Council attended the Westwood/Crafton Heights Community Council Meeting on February 27, 2008, to advocate for after school programs in the community and, as a result, will have some of their initiatives instituted by as early as April; and

WHEREAS, they were also invited to visit a local Senior Citizen Center to talk about the positive impacts they are making in the community after impressing some senior citizens that attended the community meeting.
