WHEREAS, John Chalovich, Business Manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local No. 5, will retire from a prestigious career spanning more than four decades of service; and,
WHEREAS, John Chalovich began his career forty three years ago, and throughout his tenured profession he continuously climbed the ranks, serving as an advocate for the IBEW membership in appointed and elected positions; and
WHEREAS, over the years, John has actively served many professional organizations, including the PA State Electrical Workers Association, the PA Building and Construction Trades Council, the Builders Guild of Western PA Advisory Council, the Allegheny County Labor Council, the Sports and Exhibition Authority where he currently serves as Chairman, as well as former Councilman for the Baldwin Borough, membership to the Mayor's Commission on Public Education and the Community College of Allegheny County's Board of Trustees, to name but a few; and
WHEREAS, some of the professional highlights of John's career include serving as General Foreman to Pittsburgh's PPG Place during Renaissance II in the 1980's, and more recently John was instrumental in working with the Urban Redevelopment Authority on the planning and construction of the new IBEW Building, a first class union-built facility located in South Side Works which houses educational seminars for apprentices and serves as the official meeting hall for the Union, and;
WHEREAS, the IBEW Local 5 membership consists of over 3,000 men and women in the electrical trade, and John's work and initiatives will have a lasting impression on the people he served in the past, and those that will embark in the future; and,
WHEREAS, John Chalovich's spirited career has been supported by his family members, including his wife Rose Marie, their three children, Michael, Jeffrey and Sharon, and his four grandchildren Casey, Carly, John and Quinn, and his long hours of service were balanc...
