Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Mrs. Dolores Jean Mitchell Slade as a lifelong daughter of her community, and on the occasion of her 93rd birthday; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, November 10, 2025 to be "Dolores Jean Mitchell Slade Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Dolores Jean Mitchell Slade born November 10, 1932 in Pittsburgh and raised in the East Liberty neighborhood, where her early life was rooted in family, faith and community; and,

WHEREAS, she graduated from Allegheny High School, located on Pittsburgh's north side, and continued her education at the Howard University in Washington, DC, where she studied voice and pursued her passion for music; and,

WHEREAS, in 1958, Dolores married Eugene Slade, Jr., and they built a life together in Pittsburgh's West End, where she quickly became a cherished neighbor and community pillar. From leading Girl Scouts and Blue Birds to volunteering in public schools, Dolores poured her energy into uplifting others; and,

WHEREAS, Dolores dedicated herself to service, acting as a Girl Scout leader, leading Blue Birds groups, and volunteering at Pittsburgh Public Schools. She was also a passionate advocate for civic engagement, working at voting polls to encourage voter participation and inspire democracy; and,

WHEREAS, Dolores' faith and service extended deeply into her church communities, serving in various roles at Warren United Methodist Church, Victorious Faith Evangelistic Ministries, and Kingdom Life Fellowship Pittsburgh. Her contributions included singing in the choir, working on hospitality teams, usher boards, and supporting children's ministry; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Slade served over 21 years as a dedicated School Crossing Guard in Pittsburgh's West End neighborhoods, protecting children daily. She also managed Broadhead Manor's pools, teaching kids to swim, employing local youth, and creating a safe, family-friendly environment; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Dolores Jean Mitchell Slade is beloved as a role model, mentor, and "community mom" whose compassion, integrity, and lifelong service shaped generations. Her legacy lives on in the Pittsburghers she uplifted, inspiring others to lead with love, faith, and purpose; and,
