WHEREAS, public service is the chosen profession of many proud Americans; the opportunity to serve has been the lifeblood of Louis Purificato; and,
WHEREAS, born and raised in Vandergrift, Louis Purificato is a 1954 graduate of Vandergrift High School , serving his country first in the U.S. Army stationed in the Far East Command in Korea and attending the Non-Commissioned Officer’s Academy; and,
WHEREAS, the second instance of dedicated public service was when Louis Purificato joined the Vandergrift Police Department in 1964. He rose through the ranks from Patrolman, Lieutenant and in 1960 was named Chief of Police, a position he held until he retired in the year 2000. As Chief of Police, he was a member of the Westmoreland County Youth Commission, the Attorney General’s Drug Task Force and continues to be an active member of the PA Chiefs of Police Association; and,
WHEREAS, completing the ladder of dedicated public service, Louis Purificato was appointed Mayor of Vandergrift, PA in 2005. Vandergrift is a Borough in Westmoreland County with a population of 5000 in 1.3 square miles of land with a strong steel history and a proud citizenry. After appointment to the position, Louis was elected in 2005 and served 13 years as Mayor of Vandergrift; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Louis Purificato for his service to his country and his community and congratulates Louis Purificato for 50 years of dedicated and devoted public service; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, February 19, 2018, to be “ LOUIS PURIFICATO DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.
