WHEREAS, the mission of NA’AMAT USA, International Movement of Zionist Women, is to support the women and children of Israel through its sister organization in Israel. Made up of 350,000 members with local clubs worldwide advocating for the advancement of women’s status and providing vital services, NA’AMAT provides 233 affordable day care centers , 20 technological high schools, 20 multi- purpose centers and two youth villages; and,
WHEREAS, in 1925, the members of Pioneer Women’s Organization of America , now NA’AMAT USA, asserted the right of women to participate equally in the social movements shaping America and Israel, believing that only in an autonomous women’s organization would they be able to fully realize their potential.; and,
WHEREAS, NA’AMAT USA, Pittsburgh Council is an active participant in the work of NA’AMAT USA and is proud that their member Gloria Elbling Gottlieb is a past National President of NA’MAAT USA. In addition, there is a community Center in Herzilia named for Gloria and Pittsburgh has built day care centers in Jersualem and Natanya and a women’s health center in Karmiel.; and,
WHEREAS; NA’AMAT USA, Pittsburgh Council joins their national organization in celebrating 90 years of providing excellent day care in Israel, helping at-risk teens become productive members of Israeli society, helping women get out of abusive relationships and to get an education and building a network of technological high schools, community centers , legal rights centers and women’s health centers.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend NA’AMAT USA, Pittsburgh Council for their tireless work in Israel and congratulates them on the occasion of their 90th Anniversary; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 12, 2016, to be “ NA’AMAT USA DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.
