Resolution authorizing the Mayor and/or the Director of the Department of Finance and/or the Director of the Department of Public Works, on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, to execute as necessary, an instrument or instruments, entitled "Preservation Agreement," a ten-year covenant to ensure the maintenance and preservation of the architectural and historical characteristics of the Hartzell Monument in Allegheny Commons Park in favor of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, which has funded the restoration of the Monument by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, for the benefit of the public.

WHEREAS, the Hartzell Memorial is one of the City's few monuments to honor a woman. It was placed in the park in 1909 in memory of Annie Hartzell, a founder of the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. The 2002 Allegheny Commons Master Plan called for restoring the Memorial within Allegheny Commons Park. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, with the Allegheny Commons Initiative and Northside Leadership Conference, are restoring this piece of history, including cleaning, repairing cracks and surface damage, replacing missing granite at the base, and replacing bronze elements.
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has provided funds to the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy to restore the Hartzell Monument in Allegheny Commons Park; and
WHEREAS, the Grant Agreement requires that the City of Pittsburgh to execute a ten-year covenant to ensure the maintenance and preservation of the architectural and historical characteristics of the Hartzell Monument; and the City of Pittsburgh is willing to so agree; and
