• Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Primanti Brothers on its 75th Anniversary and recognizes its contributions to Pittsburgh's culture and history; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares July 19, 2008, “Primanti Brothers Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on July 19^th, 2008, Primanti Brothers will celebrate 75 years of business with a concert and street festival on 18^th Street in the Strip District; and

WHEREAS, Primanti Brothers began as a small wooden lunch stand that sold sandwiches to truckers in the Strip District, run by Joe Primanti and his nephew John during the Great Depression; and

WHEREAS, in 1933, Mr. Primanti, his brothers, Dick and Stanley, and John DePriter purchased the restaurant that is known today as the "original" Primanti's; and

WHEREAS, Primanti's has grown from the first restaurant to 17 locations in Pittsburgh, its suburbs, and Fort Lauderdale; and

WHEREAS, the Primanti Brothers signature sandwich has been featured on The Food Network, NFL Monday Night Football, The Travel Network; National Geographic, Everyday with Rachael Ray, and was most recently recognized by The James Beard Foundation as an American Classic.
