Title: Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh on the occasion of its 75th anniversary for its important and valuable service to the people of this city and this region; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares October 9, 2006, "World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh-founded as the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Foreign Policy Association-had its first official meeting on October 9,1931; and
Whereas, over the past 75 years, the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh has served the region by promoting informed discussion of world affairs and establishing a reputation for excellence and integrity in the delivery of balanced and non-partisan public programs; and
Whereas, for over forty years, the World Affairs Council has had a special focus on support for secondary students and teachers, offering over 100 programs annually that reach over 12,000 students and teachers in over 275 schools throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania; and
Whereas, through numerous programs for secondary school students and teachers, adult luncheon discussion groups, a variety of open community forums, and a weekly radio program on KQV, the Council promotes a deeper understanding of how global issues and international events affect the lives of people in Southwestern Pennsylvania; and
Whereas, the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh pioneered the GlobalPittsburgh initiative to promote the Pittsburgh region as a major international center, highlights the region's growing international communities, encourages international business development, and fosters greater understanding of the region's increasing international connections; and
Whereas, the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh has been recognized for its excellence and community service through the 2006 International Bridge Award from the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors and through two recent national awards from the World Affairs Councils of America-first, as "the most dynamic mid-sized world affairs council in the nation" citing the Council's "extraordinary growth, innovation, and outreach," and second, for its "outstanding achievement in international education at the high school level."
