Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh recognize and commend the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime for their efforts to educate the community about the impacts and underlying causes of violence and ways to support victims in their personal healing and recovery.

WHEREAS, the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime launches their "Peace-It-Together Community Imitative on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Regional Enterprise Tower, Downtown Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, the Peace-It-Together Community Initiative Reception is an opportunity for the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime to officially introduce to the public their initiative that celebrates the strength of collective partnerships and community connection, honor the work they do to reduce violence here in Allegheny County, and update supporters and community partners on their services by showcasing the organizations resources; and
 
WHEREAS, the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to help individuals, families and communities survive the trauma of violence and crime by offering an array of services to such unfortunate victims; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2005, the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime served over 9,741 individuals throughout all its programs and provided numerous community education programs throughout the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, violence is a major public health issue that is reflected in both local and national statistics. It affects mental, physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual health. Violence hurts all of us. No one is immune. It can exist in any home, community, workplace, or school. Unresolved trauma, grief, and loss reduce a person's quality of life and increase the likelihood of exposure to victimization and/or participation in violent behavior.
