Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and congratulates Scots and Scottish-Americans living in the City of Pittsburgh, the United States and Scotland for their countless contributions and accomplishments for the benefit of humanity. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that throughout the City of Pittsburgh, April 6, 2005 will be hereby declared "Tartan Day".

WHEREAS, there are over 20 million people of Scottish decent living in the United States who take immense pride in their heritage; and
WHEREAS, it is the shared sense of democratic values that can be traced all the way back to the declaration of Arbroath, signed April 6, 1320, which cements our two nations across the physical divide of the Atlantic Ocean;  and
WHEREAS, since 1998, April 6th  has been designated "Tartan Day" by the US Senate each year in recognition of the monumental achievements and invaluable contributions made by generations of Scottish-Americans to the foundation and prosperity of the United States of America; and
 
WHEREAS, from the framers of the Declaration of Independence to the first man on the moon and beyond, Scottish-Americans have contributed vastly to the fields of the arts, science, exploration, politics, law, and much more.
