WHEREAS, Women In Bio (WIB) is an organization for professionals committed to promoting careers, leadership and entrepreneurship for women in the life sciences, whose members represent biotech and pharmaceutical companies, universities and research institutes, law and accounting firms, marketing and public relations firms, and contract research and manufacturing organizations; and,
WHEREAS, since its founding, WIB has expanded nationwide and has become one of the fastest-growing and most influential communities supporting women in the life sciences; and,
WHEREAS, in 2012, the Pittsburgh chapter of WIB was launched by five local entrepreneurs and academics who recognized the need for a forum to nurture and encourage women in life sciences; and,
WHEREAS, today, WIB-Pittsburgh continues to fulfill its mission of promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, education, and mentorship among women across Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia.; and,
WHEREAS, this year, WIB-Pittsburgh will host its twelfth annual P.O.W.E.R. (Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally) event on September 30, 2025, and their 2025 theme, “From Steel to Science,” celebrates Pittsburgh’s legacy of grit and reinvention while highlighting its powerful pivot toward innovation, equity, and growth in the life sciences sector; and,
WHEREAS, P.O.W.E.R. 2025 will feature an inspiring panel of trailblazing women leaders who have transformed disruption-technological, financial, regulatory, and organizational-into a catalyst for progress; and,
WHEREAS, the insights of these women leaders will underscore the resilience and vision required to navigate complex healthcare markets, secure funding in uncertain environments, and drive breakthroughs that redefine biotech and healthcare in our region and beyond;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares September 30, 2025 “Women in Bio (WIB) Day of P.O.W.E.R.”
