WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh was built by immigrants from around the world and these immigrants provided a foundation for our neighborhoods and communities so that home land traditions can continue and be handed down from generation to generation; and
WHEREAS, in order to continue our ethnic heritages as well adopt new traditions from more recent immigrants, the City of Pittsburgh through the cooperation of The Greater Pittsburgh Sister Cities Association endorse the twinning of cities from around the world to bring to the people of Pittsburgh a mutual understanding of this ever changing world; and,
WHEREAS, a 10-year relationship has been built between the City of Pittsburgh and Danang through the efforts of The Friends of Danang in Pittsburgh and their volunteers who have enhanced the lives of many Vietnamese children and parents through fundraising for school buildings and bridges in Danang; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA), an affiliate of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, is committed to the establishment of bilateral business growth benefiting communities in the Danang and Pittsburgh regions; and,
WHEREAS, the Friends of Danang and the PRA have helped to embody the goal of the Greater Pittsburgh Sister Cities Association by developing and sustaining cultural, social, educational and economic ties with Danang.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Sister City Agreement between the City of Danang, Vietnam, and the City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the United States.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 2, 2008, to be "DANANG, VIETNAM SISTER CITY DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
